Holy shirt

I'm not sure what I think about the Angels red jerseys. I think I like them, but...
...I prefer to see gray on the road.
I do know this: red or gray - pick one and stick with it.

Jag-wears

The Jaguars have unveiled new uniforms.

I’ve read that the Jags owner has been unhappy that the team has worn at least six uniform combinations in their 15 years in the league, so they went with a more classic look.

Tthe Jaguar on the sleeve. They’ll wear teal jerseys with white pants at home and white jerseys with black pants on the road. No more black alternate uni (Horray!).

(New on the top, old on the bottom)

I'm not sold on the rounded stripe, but overall they're OK. Definitely a much cleaner look, which has prompted complaints from some fans that they're boring.

The helmets will be different also. It will still look black, but a close look will reveal more teal. As far as I can tell, the helmet logo remains the same.
Coming soon (when I get more time): A look at the new 49ers uniforms.

Eatin' good in the neighborhood

I don't know if I told you guys, but I have a little side business going.

Make sure you stop by next time you're at the new Yankee Stadium.

Lion's wear

After all this baseball talk, we cue Rocky J. Squirrel: "And now for something completely different....."

The Detroit Lions unveiled their new logo and uniforms today.  It's not a drastic change.  They've more or less just tweaked what they've traditionally had.  They're sticking with what's called the "leaping lion" as their logo (which will be on the helmets); but instead of a sillouette, the lion has some detail, including teeth.

Here are the uni's.  Officially, that's 'Honolulu blue.'

As you can see, not much has changed.  The numbers are a different font, but overall the uniform is very similar.

I've always been partial to the Lions uniforms because they're so similar to my alma mater Steel-High Rollers - two-time defending Pennsylvania state champs and THE BEST UNIFORMS IN THE STATE!!

New World Order

As a uniform traditionalist, Friday's Baltimore-Boston game was rockin' my world.
Do the Red Sox really need to stoop to alternate uniforms?

And the hats. My God, the hats....
I will give Boston credit for actually wearing red socks.

I don't have as much of a problem with the Orioles (although I do take exception with the hat), but what happened to wearing 'Baltimore' on the road? No consistency.

Phillies Kalas tribute

Here is the patch the Phillies will wear for the rest of the season in tribute to Harry Kalas.

I'm disappointed. I thought the Phils could've done much better for someone as beloved as Harry and a Hall of Famer. Maybe a logo with a microphone?  How about "Outta here" embroidered on the sleeve?  Granted, a stunned and shaken franchise had to whip this up almost overnight, but this just seemed like the default move.

I will say this, the Phils are doing a great job remembering Harry off the field. Comcast Sportsnet has added an 'HK' to its scoreboard. Comcast will also show Friday night's game with no announcers for the first inning.

The Phils have also planned a memorial service for Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark. Fans will be able to pass by Harry's casket, which will be behind home plate. Those in attendance will also get special momentos. But the best part? Admission AND PARKING are free.

By the way, the Nationals were wearing an alternate uni tonight with with a stars and stripes logo on the shirts and hats. Gimicky (and I think I've already explained that I hate gimicky uniforms).

And, did you watch tonight's game? Or, have you seen a game televised from Nationals Park? Why is one of the main camera angles on the roof? Why isn't there an angle from press box level? That camera angle is WAY too high.

Padres-Mets

Sorry Spence, but these Padres uniforms are bad, especially when they're juxtaposed with a white uniform.  They look dirty.

This is a much better road look.  (Notice the 40th anniversary patch on the sleeve.)

And what's with the Mets Citi Field inaugural season patch?  That's weak and unimaginative.

New Baltimore uniforms

The Orioles debuted their new Baltimore road uniforms Monday in Texas.  I like them.

These new uni's adhere to the Chris Carl policy on uniforms: Team name or a logo on the home uniform, city name on the road uniform.  Theoretically, everyone at a home game knows who the home team is, but you may not know where the visiting team is from.

Spencer (a.k.a S Gray) pointed out to me that the sleeve patch is slightly different.    It reads 'Baltimore Orioles' on the home uniform and 'Orioles baseball Club' on the road uni.

Pittsburgh police hats

Here's a good look at the Pittsburgh Police hats the Pirates wore today during their home opener to honor three Pittsburgh police officers who were recently killed in the line of duty.

The team is also wearing PBP on their sleeves - Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.

The Pirates played Houston, and I have to point out that I absolutely LOVE this uniform.

Boston Blue Sox?

I've already pointed out that the BoSox wore blue tops on Friday night.

Saturday & Sunday they wore the new road grays.

I think I like them.

But I have a huge problem with....

....the BLUE socks.

I give them credit for putting the red sox on the sleeves.  I like that.
But shouldn't they be wearing red socks on their feet?
I mean, take a cue from the White Sox and wear....

Nevermind.

NBA Green Week

This has been  NBA Green Week.  For some reason, a professional basketball league feels the need to preach to me to be more eco-friendly.  Whatever.

To commemorate the week, the Bulls wore green uniforms vs. the Sixers.

Charlotte also wore green against the Sixers.

And Denver wore green.  (Apparently, the Sixers were unavailable that night.)

NBA players were also outfitted with 100% organic cotton t-shirts to wear on the bench.

Hey, I applaud their initiative.  But you gotta believe that the league was also thinking about a different green when they came up with this idea.

Joe's glove

Why did VP Biden wear a glove when he threw out the first pitch at Orioles Opening Day?

Was he expecting a hot shot back up the middle? Did he think the catcher was going to whip it back to him? Should the grounds crew have left up the batting practice screen?

Apparently the VP has never seen this:

Unusual uniforms

The Red Sox wore blue tops against the Angels on Friday night. I don't know that I've ever seen them do that, outside of spring training.

The Orioles wore a black top and the black O's hat against the Rays. I'll have to rely on my Orioles friends to answer this: Have the O's worn this combination before?

Tributes

The Angels will wear a #34 over their hearts to honor pitcher Nick Adenhart.

The Angels are already wearing a sleeve patch to honor Preston Gomez, a long-time member of the team's front office who was hit by a truck and killed in March at the age of 85.

Oakland is wearing OPD on their sleeves to honor three Oakland police officers who were killed in March.

And the Pirates will wear Pittsburgh police department hats during their home opener on Monday to honor three Pittsburgh officers who were recently killed. (I'll post a picture after the game.)

Sleeve patches

I love the Maple Leaf on the sleeves of the Blue Jays...

...and the Maryland flag on the Orioles uni's.

The Yankees are wearing 'Yankee Stadium Inaugural Season' patches. Also note the Royals are wearing 40th anniversary patches.

The Yanks are also wearing a Stadium patch on the back (not the side) of their caps.
The Mets will be wearing Citi Field patches, but I haven't found a good picture yet.

The Royals are wearing a 40th anniversary patch.
