The Orioles debuted their new Baltimore road uniforms Monday in Texas. I like them.

These new uni's adhere to the Chris Carl policy on uniforms: Team name or a logo on the home uniform, city name on the road uniform. Theoretically, everyone at a home game knows who the home team is, but you may not know where the visiting team is from.
Spencer (a.k.a S Gray) pointed out to me that the sleeve patch is slightly different. It reads 'Baltimore Orioles' on the home uniform and 'Orioles baseball Club' on the road uni.
Few observations:
ReplyDelete1. Is it new that the O's are wearing the orange bills both home and away? I seem to recall them wearing an all-black hat at home and the orange bill on the road - similar to what the Cubs do.
2. Subtle, but I'm watching the O's game and noticed that the "t" in Baltimore is printed on both sides of the jersey, so when a button is a little loose, you can see "Balttimore".
3. Totally agree with the Carl policy. Along the same lines, I hate that hockey teams wear white on the road now, since that way the home crowd always sees the same two colors.
1. I don't know the answer. I'll defer to our resident Orioles expert. Paging Dr. Kanefsky. However, I will say I don't like hats with different color bills.
ReplyDelete2. That's like the Phillies uniforms, which are spelled PHIL-LLIES.
3. It's been a couple of years, and I still get confused as to who is home and who is away.
I just saw some shots on UniWatch - apparently the Baltimore roadies also have a script Orioles on the sleeve. That's cool. They did a nice job with these unis.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the different-colored bills. Think I may pick up one of those Oriole hats.
ReplyDeleteYou would buy that hat...
ReplyDeleteI like different colored bills too. The 500s are gold. The 100s are yellow. The 50s are blue. The 20s are green. The 10s are yellow. The 5s are pink. And the 1s are white.
Did you have to dip into the SpongeBob Monopoly to write that one?

ReplyDelete" 2. Subtle, but I'm watching the O's game and noticed that the "t" in Baltimore is printed on both sides of the jersey, so when a button is a little loose, you can see "Balttimore".
Almost every major league team that has the logo cover over the buttons has the script underneath. For two reasons:
1. It helps with the maker of the uni match up the correct dimensions
2. Jerseys are meant to be worn with the buttons all the way up. If you notice the giant gap between the 2nd and 3rd button (top to bottom)
The Orioles wanted to go with a cleaner look thus, the orange bill and the orange bill on the batting helmets. They are getting away from the solid hat.
I've only ever noticed it on the Phillies uniforms, and now Baltimore - although I've never really looked that closely.
ReplyDeleteAnd how can a two-color hat be "cleaner" than a one-color hat?
